Leader of Opposition YSR Congress Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy has appealed to the Centre for its intervention against the construction of unauthorized irrigation projects of Telangana government.
YS Jagan has written a letter to Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti against the TS government’s proposed construction of ‘Palamuru – Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project’ to lift 90 TMC water from river Krishna that may be disadvantageous to the Rayalaseema, Nellore and Praksam districts.
In his letter to Ms.Uma Bharti, YS Jagan stated, “I would like to bring to your kind notice that the Telangana Government laid foundation for the construction of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LI Scheme to lift 90 tmcft of water from the Krishna River in foreshore of Srisailam Reservoir. This will deprive Rayalaseema, Nellore and Prakasam districts in AP of irrigation water.”
He further alleged that that the proposed Palamur project does not have any water allocation by any awards granted by the tribunals constituted under the Interstate River Water Disputes Act, 1956. He claimed that TS government is going ahead with Palamuru-Ranga Reddy LI Scheme without approaching concerned authorities of getting the required clearances.
“The State of Telangana is going ahead with the above cited irrigation project without approaching the concerned authorities, i.E, Krishna River Management Board and the apex council for appraisal and approval of the proposal for the construction of new project, i.E, Palamuru – RangaReddy lift irrigation scheme,” he further wrote.
The YSRCP Chief opined that the Palamur project may destabilize the irrigable lands near Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasam barrage leading to severe consequences.
