Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that the Telangana state will be developed as seed bowl of the country. KCR has been promoting Telangana, as seed producing state, considering its resources.
KCR has come up with the new scheme ‘Strengthening of Seed Production Chain and Development of Infrastructure’, and for the implementation of KCR’s thinking, the task force has framed the programme for a five years period. The programme will be implemented from 2014-15 to 2018-19 years, aiming for a 100 percent seed replacement rate in TS.
The TRS led government has allocated Rs. 50 crores in the 2014-15 budget for the production of seeds in the state to develop Telangana as a ‘seed bowl’. While the government will give its top priority to soyabean seeds, specialised processing units and storage godowns, it will also focus on the other seeds production.
The government has even sought Centre’s assistance, and in this regard, Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy met Union agriculture minister Radhamohan Singh regarding the agriculture, horticulture and development of other schemes.
