The government of Telangana has sought for a smart city tag for six cities across the state, and the shortlisted cities have been submitted to the Centre for the final approval.
TS government shortlisted Telangana states include Warangal, Nizambad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Ramagundam and Mahbubnagar, and it has urged the centre to include these cities in the Centre to-be-developed “100 smart cities” programme across the country.
The government has finalized the cities based on the population ranging from 2 lakh to 10 lakhs, as the urban population in Telangana is the 3.64 per cent of national urban population. The government is also hopeful of Union government developing seven municipalities as “satellite townships”, which are 100 kms away from the capital city Hyderabad,
Medchal, Gajwel, Bhongir, Peddamberpet, Shadnagar, Vikarabaad and Sangareddy are the seven municipalities in the shortlisted list, while the Centre has earlier announced to develop Vikarabad as a “smart city” under JNNURM, and it has allotted Rs135 crore.
