The inauguration of the long-awaited Kadapa Airport will be held on March 1, as discussed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his recent meet at Collectors’ conference. After several postponements, the government has expedited the completion of works, and the stage is set for inauguration.
The flight services in the morning and evening are to be operated initially, and several leaders who travels to/from Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are waiting for the operations of Kadapa airport to begin.
It was initially former Chief Minister Late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who focused on the development of Kadapa Airport that was spread over 1,060 acres during his regime. The government then has taken the several works including two-km runway, air traffic control tower, administrative building, permanent terminal, power house, internal roads. However, the works were slowed down after his death.
Later, the Civil Aviation Ministry has granted Rs. 12 crore for the works and the permission for the temporary passenger terminal was given. The operations of flights were supposed to take off in 2009, but they have been postponed several times due to delay in release of funds and further delay in the works.
